Paul Chipolina joined the RGP in 1997, serving in frontline policing, Special Branch, Protection Officer to the Hon Chief Minister, and the Police Immigration Section prior to its handover to HM Government of Gibraltar. Promoted to Sergeant in 2008, he served in various Response Teams and in Special Branch until October 2012, when he was promoted to Inspector. He returned to frontline policing until April 2014, when he was tasked with establishing the RGP Force Intelligence Unit, followed by roles as International Liaison Officer, Media Officer and Head of the Special Branch and Force Intelligence units. On promotion to Chief Inspector in July 2020, he became deputy head of the Crime & Protective Services Division until August 2021, when he was appointed Head of RGP Corporate Services. In March 2023, Mr Chipolina graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, following a 10-week residential professional development programme. In October 2023, he was seconded to the Royal Falkland Islands Police to cover as Temporary Chief Police Officer, following a policing mutual aid request. Mr Chipolina was promoted to Superintendent in March 2024 and assumed command of the Operations Division.
Mr Chipolina holds a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice Education awarded by the University of Virginia, a Diploma in Leadership & Management awarded by the University of Durham, and a Master of Science degree in International Criminal Justice awarded by the University of Portsmouth.
He is currently the RGP Strategic Lead for Armed Policing, Marine Policing and Public Order/Public Safety, with additional portfolios as Project Servator Gibraltar Coordinator and Armed Forces Covenant Lead. In his free time, he enjoys reading military history, keeping fit, and as a musician, is involved in the local live music scene.
