Officers within the Digital Forensics Unit conduct forensic analysis of digital media for investigations conducted in which digital evidence is being sought. They will identify and secure electronic evidence sources and analyse electronic evidence with their combined knowledge and skills providing the ability to combat both digital & cybercrime elements that are now regularly encountered in day-to-day policing. They will liaise with their uniformed colleagues, specialist departments and representatives of outside enforcement agencies in relation to the investigation of crime in which there is a digital evidence element.
The Digital Forensics Unit will assist any department in the execution of search warrants, in which digital evidence is being sought. These officers may also conduct statements under caution, witness statements and records of interviews and prepare expert forensic reports on examined digital evidence for prosecution dockets.
