There was an emotional farewell for the Commissioner of Police at New Mole House this week.

Scores of officers, civilian staff and family members filled the courtyard of the Royal Gibraltar Police’s Headquarters yesterday (Monday 14 April) to watch Richard Ullger’s send off.

A number of officers, including his sister, formed a traditional guard of honour to bid him farewell on his last day.

Mr Ullger joined the RGP on the 20th of June 1988 at the age of 18.

His career saw him work in a multitude of departments including Response Teams, the Criminal Investigation Department, the Marine Section (during the riots of 1995), 

Drug Squad, Special Branch, Community Policing, Head of Special Branch and Divisional Commanders for Operations.

Marking the end of his career in the RGP, he said: “I will miss the workforce dearly and the wider RGP family.

“It’s been an absolute privilege to have served the force for the past 37 years and I am indebted to the officers and staff for their commitment and contributions that have made the organisation what it is today. I am sure that the RGP will continue to evolve over the next few years in providing an excellent service to Gibraltar.”

Mr Ullger, who achieved a Master’s degree in Police Leadership and Management with the University of Leicester, will now start a new job as a Subject Matter Expert in Overseas Territories Policing. 

A spokesman for the Royal Gibraltar Police, said: “We wish Mr Ullger all the best in his new role – he will be missed by his colleagues.”
