Yesterday evening (14.3.18) an off-duty police officer came across an attempt to illegally export cigarettes at Naval Hospital Road where 2 boxes of 10,000 cigarettes were being loaded into a foreign registered car. Whilst tackling this incident one of the persons involved was challenged by police but was able to evade arrest and make good his escape.
In connection with this incident three males, all Spanish Nationals, were arrested on suspicion of being knowingly concerned in the exportation of a commercial quantity of cigarettes and being knowingly concerned in the sale of a commercial quantity of cigarettes in breach of a retail licence. Following interview all men were released on police whilst further enquires continue.
In connection with this incident commercial premises were searched and a further 12 boxes of tobacco and a foreign registered vehicle were seized.
