Another drink driver was sentenced in the Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday).
James Davidson, 69, of the South District, pleaded guilty to Driving a Motor Vehicle with Alcohol Concentration above the Prescribed Limit and was disqualified from driving for 17 months and fined £335,
The court heard that, following an anonymous call to the Control Room at around 2300hrs on 15 March 2022, officers were dispatched to Winston Churchill Avenue in relation to a locally-registered car which had been seen swerving from side to side along the road.
After officers had stopped the car, the driver, James Davidson, was asked to move it to the side of the road to allow other vehicles to pass. He had difficulty in doing so. When officers spoke to him, they detected a strong smell of alcohol and noted that his speech was slurred.
Due to his alleged medical conditions, Davidson was unable to provide a sample of breath for a roadside test but he was arrested on suspicion of Driving a Motor Vehicle with Alcohol Concentration above the prescribed limit.
Once at New Mole House, he provided a blood sample for analysis. This sample was later found to contain 175 milligrams of alcohol per 100 Millilitres of blood. The prescribed limit is 80 milligrams.
Davidson was then charged for the offence.
