The Royal Gibraltar Police has responded to a wide variety of incidents over the long Bank Holiday weekend.
Response Team officers made arrests for offences including sexual assault, drug possession, drug driving, drunken and disorderly behaviour and a juvenile carrying a knife.
In total – the RGP’s Custody Suite processed 14 people over the weekend, some of whom will be in court today.
Here are a handful of the incidents that officers dealt with since last Thursday.
0700 28 Mar – 0700 29 Mar
At around 0445, a local man, 18, was arrested on suspicion of Possession of Class A Drugs, Possession of Class B Drugs and Possession with Intent to Supply Class A Drugs. Officers stopped the man’s car due to the manner of his driving – at which point officers noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from the car. Following a search of the vehicle, a number of suspected Class A and B Drugs were found. An investigation is ongoing.
0700 29 Mar – 0700 30 Mar
At around 1800, a Spanish national, 50, was arrested for a Breach of the Peace and later cautioned after he had stopped traffic in front of the Convent in order to wave a Spanish flag.
0700 30 Mar – 0700 31 Mar
At around 1800, a Spanish man, 39, was arrested on suspicion of Riding an E-Scooter Whilst under the Influence of Drugs. Response Team officers initially spotted the man riding the E-Scooter along Winston Churchill Avenue without a helmet. On stopping him, officers noticed that he was constantly snorting, sniffing, unable to keep still and was having muscle spasms. Officers suspected he was under the influence of drugs and after a road side drugs test, he gave a positive reading for cocaine and was arrested and taken to New Mole House.
At around 0000, a local man, 36, was arrested for Disorderly Conduct Whilst Intoxicated. Officers were patrolling Ocean Village when they noticed the man shouting profanities and swinging his arms in a violent manner towards people in the area. On speaking to the man, he became argumentative and violent. He was arrested and taken to New Mole House.
At around 0037, a local man, 46, was arrested on suspicion of Sexual Assault, Resisting/Obstructing Police and an outstanding arrest warrant. His arrest came after Response Team officers spotted him on Prince Edwards Road, and, knowing he was a suspect from a sexual assault reported to police several days earlier, got out of their vehicle and made their way towards him. On spotting the officers he ran off – but was caught a short distance later following a short foot chase. Once in New Mole House Police Station, he was further arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A Drugs, which were found within the suspect’s residence. An investigation is ongoing.
0700 31 Mar – 0700 1 Apr
At around 1900, a man reported that someone had entered his boat in Marina Bay without his permission and stolen a number of electronic items worth approximately £2,000 earlier that afternoon. An investigation is ongoing.
At around 0245, Response Team officers stopped and searched a male juvenile, 15, on Main Street, who was acting suspiciously. Officers found him in possession of a large kitchen knife and cannabis. He was arrested for both offences and taken to New Mole House.
