Shortly before 5pm yesterday (Friday), the RGP Control Room received a report from a shop in the area of Cornwall’s Parade to the effect that a man had entered the shop, brandished a knife at members of staff and demanded money from the till.
A sum of money was handed over to the man who then left the shop. The staff member did not sustain any physical injuries.
Response Team officers attended the scene within minutes and were soon joined by detectives and Crime Scene Investigators who took over the investigation. They completed forensic work and analysed CCTV footage.
Later in the evening, a 36 year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of Robbery and being in Possession of a Controlled Class A Drug. He has been interviewed and is currently in police custody. His car was seized and found to contain a quantity of money.
The investigation remains ongoing and further arrests are not ruled out.
