Local Man sentenced to Time Served and a 36 month Disqualification
In the Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, Ronald IGNACIO (29) of Beach View Terraces pleaded guilty to charges of Dangerous Driving, No Insurance, Failing to Stop, Driving while Disqualified and Failing to Cooperate with a Preliminary Test.
He was disqualified for a further 36 months in addition to the time he has served in prison since the occurrence.
When officers were called to an altercation at Eastern Beach Car Park at 0644hrs on 24 April of this year, they recognised IGNACIO as being a disqualified driver. At the time, he was leaving the scene in a silver Mercedes.
In attempting to get away from the officers, IGNACIO ignored their signals to stop and drove at speed along Devils Tower Road where the speed limit is 50kph. A speed camera recorded his speed as 89kph.
Due to his speed and the manner of his driving, officers were unable to catch the Mercedes.
A while later, other officers saw IGNACIO on Sir Herbert Miles Road and apprehended him. His speech was slurred and he smelt of alcohol but he refused to give a breath test. He was then arrested and taken to New Mole House Police Station.
