A local man was sentenced to 250 hours of unpaid work and will have to pay £1,500 in compensation to his victim after he was found guilty of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm.
Walid HALHOUL, 20, of John Mackintosh Square, was sentenced at the Supreme Court yesterday (Thursday 6 July).
The court heard that on 9 December 2021, a fight broke out between HALHOUL and another man in Catalan Bay Car Park.
The victim in the case, a former friend of HALHOUL, sustained a fractured wrist and a laceration to the back of his head.
At the trial, which started on 2 May 2023, HALHOUL was acquitted of two counts of causing Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent in relation to the fractured wrist, but found guilty of ABH in relation to the head injury.
Puisne Judge John Restano, said: “You were originally acting in self-defence, but went beyond what was reasonable force when you inflicted this injury.”
