RGP Officers Assaulted During Violent Incident

 

Three Royal Gibraltar Police officers were assaulted by suspects during a violent incident in the Laguna Estate last night.

 

The assaults included being punched in the face – with the officers requiring treatment to their injuries.

 

RGP officers were dispatched to a disturbance at a residence in Laguna at around 8.20pm last night

 

On police arrival, officers encountered a man acting aggressively towards them with a bottle in his hand. The man was arrested on suspicion of assault. 

 

Following this, the officers were assaulted by multiple persons at location. 

 

As a result, a local woman, 54, was arrested on suspicion of Assault on Police and Violent Disorder. A local woman, 18, was arrested on suspicion of a Breach of the Peace, Violent Disorder and Disorderly Conduct in a Police Station. A local man, 21, was arrested on suspicion of Violent Disorder, Resisting or Obstructing Police, Destroying or Damaging and Assault on Police. A local woman, 26, was arrested on suspicion of Assault on Police and Violent Disorder. 

 

A police Body Worn Camera was also damaged during the incident. 

 

An investigation is ongoing.

 

A spokesman for the Royal Gibraltar Police, said: “It is appalling that three of our officers were assaulted whilst doing their job last night.

 

“Assaults on police must not be tolerated as simply being part of the job. We would like to thank these officers for their professionalism and efforts whilst dealing with a difficult situation last night.

 

“It can be a challenging job at times and we are lucky to have these officers.”
