Three drivers were arrested on suspicion of drink driving offences in the early hours of Saturday morning.
At 0045, officers observed a motorcycle swerving from side to side on Line Wall Road. The rider, a Ukrainian national resident in Spain, was stopped and officers immediately smelled alcohol on his breath. When breathalysed, he blew 116ug.
At 0050, a local man, 29, was stopped on Queensway after officers noticed him driving his car at high speed. He was asked to take a breath test which gave a reading of 65ug.
At 0125, officers patrolling in the area of Europa Point noticed a locally-registered car which was stationary but had its engine running and its lights on. Officers had reason to believe that the driver, 24, who was slumped over the wheel, had driven to Europa after attending a rave in Alameda Gardens. As there was a strong smell of alcohol in the car, the driver was breath tested and blew 71ug.
An RGP spokesman, said: “We’d like to remind people that drink or drug driving is totally unacceptable.
“Our officers are out every day looking for the tell-tale signs of drink driving, so our advice is don’t risk it, it’s just not worth it.
“We have a zero tolerance approach to all instances of driving whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
“You simply cannot combine drink or drugs with driving. We urge anyone not to get behind the wheel if they are intoxicated, to ensure that they protect themselves and those around them.
